iReview Ads Removal Guide

Most adware, including iReview – and other forms of malware - end up on your PC thanks to our habit of downloading freebies from the Internet. This is because adware is frequently bundled with freeware and shareware – i.e. the things that most of us like to download: TV series, music, videos and games etc. You may have even noticed in the past that after downloading free software you suddenly started seeing pop up adverts, banner ads or pop under windows – the ads that run behind the page you're looking at.

"Media content may not display properly. Install Browser Updater Now."

iReview is also sometimes installed if you visit a website with lax security that has been targeted by adware producers.

Why does adware exist?

Adware exists because we can't resist free stuff! The people that create programs and software and don't charge for it need a way of recouping their programming costs, or even making a profit. How do they do that - by packaging adware with regular software.

Another way of generating money is to keep the iReview adware hidden for later. You've downloaded a program and are enjoying using it but once the free trial expires the adware will appear – and you'll have to pay to get an upgraded adware-free version.

Finding and deleting iReview

Whilst it's pretty easy to spot adware on your PC (hello pop up adverts!) unfortunately it can be trickier to find it and delete it. This is because the people that make adware don't want you to remove it – naturally – so they will create it so that it installs itself deep within your operating system. Luckily, however, there are programs that you can use to find and delete the adware. A quick online search will help but do bear in mind that a generous proportion of the search results are links that have been created by malware programmers who want to deceive you into downloading something even worse than adware.

Points to remember when searching for anti-malware software:

• Do your research: talk to other computer users, people in your workplace or those who you perceive to be a little more Internet savvy than you may be
• Read online forums and visit a known reputable IT provider, manufacturer or retailer's website

One thing you can do easily yourself is to check what's installed on your PC. You can do this by following the simple steps below:

• Reboot your computer
• Take a look at your start up list and if you see something you don't recognize, conduct a quick Internet search and figure out if you want to keep or delete it. Keep in mind that iReview can be bubdled with a different program and listed under completely different name
• If you're not sure whether or not you need it and are worried about deleting something you may need once again it's a good idea to ask an expert or someone who knows computers – a friend, acquaintance or someone in your company’s IT department if you have one

iReview Removal Guide:

1. First of all, download anti-malware software and run a full system scan. It will detect and remove this infection from your computer. You may then follow the manual removal instructions below to remove the leftover traces of this malware. Hopefully you won't have to do that.

2. Remove iReview related programs from your computer using the Add/Remove Programs control panel (Windows XP) or Uninstall a program control panel (Windows 7 and Windows 8).

Go to the Start Menu. Select Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs.
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, select Control Panel → Uninstall a Program.



If you are using Windows 8, simply drag your mouse pointer to the right edge of the screen, select Search from the list and search for "control panel".



Or you can right-click on a bottom left hot corner (formerly known as the Start button) and select Control panel from there.



3. When the Add/Remove Programs or the Uninstall a Program screen is displayed, scroll through the list of currently installed programs and remove the following:

• iReview
• and any other recently installed application

Simply select each application and click Remove. If you are using Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, click Uninstall up near the top of that window. When you're done, please close the Control Panel screen.

Remove iReview related extensions from Google Chrome:

1. Click on Chrome menu button. Go to Tools → Extensions.



2. Click on the trashcan icon to remove iReview, LyricsSay-1, MediaPlayerV1, HD-Plus 3.5 and other extensions that you do not recognize.



If the removal option is grayed out then read how to remove extensions installed by enterprise policy.




Remove iReview related extensions from Mozilla Firefox:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Go to Tools → Add-ons.



2. Select Extensions. Click Remove button to remove iReview, LyricsSay-1, MediaPlayerV1, HD-Plus 3.5 and other extensions that you do not recognize.

Remove iReview related add-ons from Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools → Manage Add-ons. If you have the latest version, simply click on the Settings button.



2. Select Toolbars and Extensions. Click Remove/Disable button to remove the browser add-ons listed above.
