ShopnDrop adware winds up on our PCs due to us having downloaded something from the Internet – in the majority of cases this will be something free. Most often Adware is bundled with shareware and freeware so if you're a regular (or even a fairly infrequent) downloader of TV series, music videos, games, wallpapers and emoticons, there is a likelihood of you downloading ShopnDrop too. Indeed, you may have already previously spotted a proliferation of pop-up and banner adverts when you've downloaded some free software.
Let's say you're the creator of a program or some software that you're giving away for free, you want to recoup your costs - or even make a profit. After all, you have to earn a living too, right? And you do this by packaging adware with your original program. The adware program then displays ads on pretty much every website you visit. In other words add a few more ads to those that were placed by website owner and what you have is a hard to navigate and read web page full of ads. It can be really frustrating.
Oftentimes programs will use ShopnDrop as a carrot. You'll be more than happy with your free program (of course – it was free!) but what happens after the inevitable free trial? You will probably be asked to pay to start using it, or an adware free version of it.
To be honest, it's pretty obvious – there's no mistaking all those pop up, banner and even pop under ads. (Pop under ads are the ones that 'appear' behind the screen you're looking at.) But even if you're not sure if what you're experiencing is adware or simply overzealous Internet marketing there are lots of programs you can use to identify and remove adware.
The key is to do your research when looking for anti-malware programs as some of the search results you see will be from disreputable programmers who will be trying to get you to click their links and visit websites which may have even more adware – or something more serious – embedded in them.
ShopnDrop can often be dismissed as annoying but ultimately harmless. Spyware however, possibly due to its scarier sounding name, is usually taken far more seriously. But the fact is that increasingly, adware comes packaged with spyware. If it didn't, how would the adware programmers know how to tailor make those adverts that pop-up on your computer screen? After all – you didn't think it was a coincidence that after browsing for vacations in South America earlier today, you’re now seeing adverts for hotel and flight websites.
Okay, so that could be deemed helpful on some levels. But it's not quite as innocent as it seems when you take into account that some spyware can log your key strokes and monitor what you're typing on your computer: and yes that does include your passwords, log in information and online banking details. Suddenly ShopnDrop adware doesn't seem quite so innocent does it?
